Aquamasters 4 days of pool and 1 open water in Marmaris

I was very excited to host the second ever Aquamasters Masters 4 day event (3 pool and 1 open water) in Marmaris, Turkey from 27th to 30th Oct 2015.

I dusted off the arms and took part in my favourite event as a kid, 50 metres backstroke which I have to confess I have only competed in once in the last 15 years. I also took part in 50 metres freestyle in the pool which again was a long time ago. I loved it and was treated to an overwhelming reception by the awesome swimmers. I swam in the first heat alongside a number of previous Turkish decorated champions with the oldest in his 80’s. I love that the organisers took pride in honouring their athletes.

It was an action packed 3 days in the pool with competitors aged in their early 20’s to late 80’s. It was an incredible atmosphere with a lot of laughs. I was treated fantastically well and was a great privilege for me to present the podium winners by age group and see so many smiling faces!

Day 4 we moved from the pool to open water, which was a breath taking location on Icmeler beach situated directly opposite the 5 star Marta Resort De Luxe Haman Hotel in a stunning location which was also the accommodation for the swimmers for the 4 days of competing.

The race distances were 1.5k, 3k and 6k events and everyone completed their chosen distance. The water temperature was a balmy 22 degrees Celsius with air temperature 24.

The 4 days were incredibly well organised with certificates for all and medals for the podium finishers and both venues and accommodation were fantastic. We were even treated to a music concert on one of the nights after the pool swimming. It was great to see people had travelled from a number of different countries to take part in this event and I will look forward to meeting old and new faces again in May to this highly recommended event.

I will be back in 2016 running an Ocean Walker 5 day swim camp from 13th -17th May to learn the technique that I used to complete the toughest seven ocean swims in the world known as the Oceans Seven. You then have a great opportunity to test it out in the 4 days of competing. All those attending the Ocean Walker swim camp will be able to enter all four days of the Aquamasters pool and open water with choice of events for free! See link below for details.

Happy Swimming 🙂 x
